Forest Crescent PS Choir

Forest Crescent Primary school offers an extensive Music Programme for all students in Pre Primary to Year Six. All students attend Music once a week for sixty minutes and are given many opportunities to develop their musical talent and to learn skills and processes to improve their musical abilities. Students take part in various whole school performances throughout the year, as well as their own class assembly items and the Presentation Night held in December each year. Whole school performances develop each student’s sense of unity and belonging and strengthen the community atmosphere at Forest Crescent PS.

The Forest Crescent Primary School choir consists of 60 students ranging from Years 4-6 who are chosen following an audition process. The choir performs on many occasions throughout the year and have built a reputation of being very high-quality performers.

Forest Crescent PS Got Talent

Forest Crescent’s Got Talent began in 2010 as the brainchild of a student for a PEAC assignment. It has since become an annual event that children look forward to immensely.

It starts with a series of auditions for children wanting to participate. Auditions are held in Term Two at lunchtimes, in clusters, at a year group level. A timetable is made up at the start of Term Two and students are well aware when their year level is due to audition. Students are chosen on their performance and, if successful, are asked to perform in a semi-final that occurs usually in Week Nine or Ten of Term Two. Children are categorised into sections according to their year level. Years One & Two is Junior Section, Years Three & Four is the Middle Section and Years Five & Six is the Senior Section. The top four acts from each section are then asked to perform in Grand Final, which is held in Week Ten Term Two, at the Whole School Assembly on a Thursday morning. A video recording is made of all performances and is available after the event to be put on a USB for parents on request.

Forest Crescent PS Band

Forest Crescent PS offers instrumental tuition for selected students in Years 5 & 6 for various instruments including flute, clarinet, guitar, drums and brass. Lessons are provided by specialists from the School of Instrumental Music (SIM). Students are instructed once a week in groups of five students for thirty minutes.

Students involved in Instrumental music are required to attend band practice once a week to develop their skills and to learn to play with a group. Band practice will be held on Wednesday at lunchtime (1:20pm to 2:00pm).

In Term One, only Year Six students attend band practice. From Term Two the students of Years Five and Six attend practice weekly.

Yamaha Keyboards

At the beginning of 2016, our school entered into a contract with Yamaha and fifteen high-quality keyboards were installed into the music room. A Clavinova was also installed for use by the teacher. Yamaha conducts lessons in the music room on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday after school and on Saturdays. Pamphlets about the lessons are available from the front office. Students between four and eight years old are able to begin lessons with this programme.

The keyboards are available for all students at Forest Crescent to use when in Music lessons and an exciting new programme is underway to have all students learning how to play the keyboard. The keyboards have replaced the recorder as part of the student’s music education and are proving to be invaluable as all students are able to learn and play regardless of their entry-level. It is an excellent resource that we hope will continue for many years.
