2023 was to be a change in the program for our end-of-year presentation night. There was a change to the format, which resulted in a shorter program with musical items presented by each year level, which also resulted in our name change to Concert Night 2023.

Our student councillors, Dior, Sairam, Stephanie, Aldebaran, Giselle, Caleb, Sherrilyn, and Ashton, led by Sukesh and Aardrha, more than competently filled their roles as “Master of Ceremonies”.

As Aardrha said, ‘You are all in for a vast array of musical numbers tonight. Some of the tunes you will recognise…. But the words have been rearranged, so listen carefully. Get ready for an amazing show.”

And what an amazing show. Each year level presented a song specifically chosen by their teachers to show you how amazing the students at Forest Crescent Primary School are.

The Year Fives were our first act. The Year Five classes were Room 14 with Mr Mason, Room 15 with Ms Bee and Room 16 with Mr Nicholas. The Year Fives sang “Christmas In The Air” with a tune you may recognise; however, the words have been finely crafted by Ms Bee to reflect the year that was 2023 in Year Five!

The Year Two classes were Room 10 with Ms Hegney and Mr Stevenson, Room 11 with Mrs Boddy, Room 12 with Mrs Toplis and Room 13 with Mrs Wybenga. They prepared a song that helps to explain why elves might sometimes appear to be a bit naughty!! These Year 2 elves are never naughty; they have worked hard all year and want to have fun!

The Year One classes were Room 6 with Mrs Cross and Mrs Giles, Room 7 with Mrs Mac, Room 8 with Mrs Martin and Room 9 with Mrs Dale. The Year Ones had learned a lot this year, but perhaps the most important lesson they learned was that giving is what the Christmas season is all about; they’re “Blaming It On The Christmas”.

Ms Bannister’s Room 19, Mrs O’Brien and Mrs Sellick’s Room 20, and Mrs Rodricks’ Room 21 sang about their Christmas Day bbq, where the flies are thicker than the cream on the pavlova, where the cricket is on the TV as well as being played in the backyard, where it’s 30 degrees before 9am. They even called in “fair dinkum Aussie, Mr Powers, to play the guitar for them! The Year 4’s serenaded us with “Aussie Christmas”.

The Pre-Primary classes were Room 1 with Ms Albertyn and Ms Auld, Room 2 with Mrs Sheehan and Ms Carey, and Room 3 with Mrs Clarke and Mrs White. In the Pre-Primary, they are always super busy, just like Santa’s elves. They took us on a journey with Santa’s sleigh with Santa, his reindeer and “Five Little Elves”.

The Year Threes were Room 22 with Mrs Nowell and Ms Spencer, Room 23 with Mrs Sellick and Mrs Cashmore, Room 24 with Mrs Della and Mrs DeRoey and Room 25 with Mrs Williams and Mrs Smith. Mrs Burke had cleverly taken a song you would no doubt recognise and made it into an anthem for Year 3 2023, the Year 3’s with “This Is Year 3”.

Room 17 with Mrs Davies and Ms Sandhu, Room 18 with Ms Doran and Ms Bransby, along with Room 5 Mrs Brown and Ms Bransby were here to show you they’ve still got “it”! This year, the Year Sixes had prepared a song for you that will have you singing all the way home. Mrs Brown has turned Grease Lightning into a special version we call “Claus Lightning!” We all strapped ourselves in as the Year Sixes took us flying with the Santa Megamix.

The whole school song is one tradition we have kept in our updated version of Concert Night for 2023.

This year, Ms Britten has reworked the song “Dancing Queen” by Abba and turned it into a song we like to call “Christmas Eve”.

Special acknowledgement must be made to Ms Britten, the music teacher, who devised most of the concert night songs and actions.
