The Australian Mathematics Competition (AMC) was introduced in Australia in 1978 as the first Australia-wide mathematics competition for students. It has since spread internationally, with students in more than 30 countries attempting the same problems. In recent years the competition has been available in two formats (online and paper), allowing even more students to participate worldwide.
The AMC is for students of all standards. Students are asked to solve 30 problems in 60 minutes (Years 3–6). The problems are designed to test mathematical thinking and questions.
This year Forest Crescent Primary Primary fielded a group of 62 participants, from Year 4 to Year 6, sitting the competition after being involved in workshop sessions in which they explored various methods and concepts required to solve a variety of challenging questions from past papers. Thirty-one students from Year 4, nineteen students from Year 5 and twelve students from Year 6 sat the competition with the following results;
- Two students were awarded a High Distinction- (Year 6) Alex B with a score of 93 and a percentile ranking of 98; (Year 4) Sairam R with a score of 93 and a percentile ranking of 98.
- Fourteen students awarded a Distinction- (Year 4) Avalyn M, Riley C, Ruth G, Adil I, Ruby-June R; (Year 5) Claire V, Saanvi B, Amy V; (Year 6) Tayla D, Daniel J, Dylan D, Manan S, Benjamin O, and Manthan S.
- Twenty-three students awarded a Credit- (Year 4) William J, Mahanad R, Haruki Y, Genevive F, Reagan V, Siyanna C, Kaniki M, Ryleigh W; (Year 5) Jaden K, Naomi T, Eli B, Eden R, Riley W, Mia E, Rahel R, Serenity V, Deano W, Ryan Z; (Year 6) Mina K, Eric L, Harrison R, Alexander P, and Lachlan D.
- Twenty-three students awarded a Proficiency- (Year 4) Ibrahim M, Brody A, Stephanie B, Rhys N, Austin C, Archer L, Payton W, Amira Y, Aardhra H, Tiffany L, Jason N, Ella R, Adelle F, Sherilynn S, Noah T, Yuchen Q, Leah K; (Year 5) William K, Leo G, Chaeun Y, Andreii S, Matthew P, and Kayla K.
The student group is to be commended for the diligence and perseverance, especially for the Year 4 students participating for the first time.
