On Tuesday, 24th August, we held our annual Book Week Parade and gold coin donation for the Indigenous Literacy Foundation. We raised just over $600 in gold coin donations. Thank you to all our families and staff for your magnificent support of our Book Week activities. It is so important that we take every opportunity to celebrate the reading of books.
This year’s theme of “Old Worlds, New Worlds and Other Worlds” allowed a diverse array of costumes across the year levels to be displayed. The photos attached to this newsletter provide examples of the wonderful costumes.
Why do children need books?
- Books create warm emotional bonds between adults and children when they read together
- Books help children develop basic language skills and profoundly expand their vocabularies
- Books are interactive; they demand that children think.
- Fiction and nonfiction books widen our consciousness
- Books entertain and offer a great escape.
- Books inspire us to dream.
Thank you also to Mrs Garic and the Book Week Committee for all of your organisation and especially Mr and Mrs Virgin who once again provided the creative backdrops.
