The Australian Mathematics Competition (AMC) was introduced in Australia in 1978 as the first Australia-wide mathematics competition for students. It has since spread internationally, with students in over thirty countries attempting the same problems.

The AMC is for students of all standards. Students are asked to solve thirty problems in sixty minutes (Years 3–6). The problems are designed to test mathematical thinking and questions.

This year, Forest Crescent Primary Primary fielded a group of seventy-nine participants from Year 4 to Year 6, sitting the competition after participating in workshop sessions in which they explored various methods and concepts required to solve multiple challenging questions from past papers. Nineteen students from Year 3, thirty students from Year 4, fifteen students from Year 5 and twelve students from Year 6 sat the competition with the following results;

High Distinction:

  1. Year 5 – Davin T.

Distinction:

  1. Year 6 – Adi I, Ruth G, Sairam R, Riley C, and Ruby-June R.
  2. Year 5 – Man Yu H.
  3. Year 4 – Jessica L, Eli C, Spencer G, Tanish G, Qindan L, Ashton S, and Haider N.
  4. Year 3 – Alivia H, and Thomas F.

Credit:

  1. Year 6 – Cindy G, Yuchen Q, and Sherilynn S.
  2. Year 5 – Mitchell S, William P, Jett T, Jie N, Georgia R, Seren H, Damien B, and Zoe P.
  3. Year 4 – Nicholas R, Zihang Y, Cooper R, Paras K, Emma S, Huner S, Henry S, Ryuchi G, and Paris R.
  4. Year 3 – Brayden L, Man Lok H, Harpe-Lee J, Jinu M, Kaelan V, and Veronica G.

Proficiency:

  1. Year 6 – Leah K, Siyanna C, and Jaagrit T.
  2. Year 5 – Gil H, Nara B, and Dvlatbek K
  3. Year 4 – Gavin C, Bryan P, Josh R, Tyler S, Aiden B, Layla V, Uzna U, Nancy L, Seeret B, Kayden W, Nyssa J, and Charlee S.
  4. Year 3 – Jaxon F, Nihal S, Lexie B, Stephanie W, Pavithra T, Kevin K, Saber M, Tannayah M, Jordan G, and Matthias S.

The students from Year 3 to Year 6 have demonstrated a wide range of mathematical skills, and their hard work and dedication are commendable, especially for the Year 3 students participating for the first time.

The AMC provides an excellent platform for students to challenge themselves and develop their mathematical thinking skills. The distinctions and high distinctions achieved by some students reflect their exceptional abilities in this area.

Congratulations to all students who received awards. Each of these achievements represents a significant level of mathematical prowess. Furthermore, this experience will likely be a strong foundation for their future participation in mathematical competitions.
