To further enhance our classroom learning of Indigenous culture, our classes will be travelling by bus to the Rio Tinto Naturescape in Kings Park on Tuesday July 23rd 2019.
While two classes are exploring nature in the Naturescape, the other classes will attend the Kings Park Noongar Boodja Makuru learning program which explores the Noongar culture and the ways they used the land. While in the Naturescape, children will take part in activities such as mia-mia (shelter) building, climbing, bird watching and paddling in the shallow water at Paperbark Creek. Students will be placed in small groups of 6 and an adult will be with them at all times.
Children will need to wear their school uniform (preferably girls should wear shorts or skorts), a sun-safe hat, closed in “old” shoes and sunscreen. They will need to bring a water bottle, snack for recess and lunch in re-useable containers as there are no rubbish bins located close by. Please make sure that all of your child’s belongings have their name clearly marked and are packed securely in their school bag. It would also be a great idea to pack a small towel.
