Harmony Day was celebrated on Thursday, March 20th, at Forest Crescent Primary School. The extraordinary canteen ladies provided a multicultural menu during Recess and Lunch that day. Many parents ordered food from our canteen, while others brought food along with them. Most of them stayed on for the special assembly and later walked around the school to see the ‘Harmony Day’ displays on classroom windows. Their presence made the day extra special!
For the special assembly at 2:00pm, Miss Sandhu came up with the wonderful idea of the ‘Welcome’ in different languages. A few students of Room 21 and some Year 6 students greeted the audience in their language. Ms Britten trained the students to sing the Harmony Day song in a unique way. She also taught the Year 6 students of the school band. They played beautifully and made the song sound amazing! Ms Auld and the Pre-Primary teachers trained their students to join in the singing.
It was indeed the best Harmony Day assembly we have ever had at Forest Crescent Primary School. The Kindy students celebrated Harmony Day, too! It was an amazing week! Everyone could feel, sense and see the harmony at Forest Crescent Primary School.
The teachers and Education Assistants took a lot of trouble to foster a sense of cultural Harmony at FCPS through the activities that they did. Mrs Lambert and Mrs Ohlson also created an excellent display in the Library to remind us about the importance of this day.
It is with gratitude that I say, “Dhanyavaad ” (‘Thank you’ in the Indian language) to everyone in our school community for your contribution to help us celebrate a wonderful Harmony Day at FCPS!”

Each year we celebrate Harmony Day at Forest Crescent. With approximately 220 students from a language background other than English (35%), it is an important week of celebration and recognition of our cultural diversity. This year’s theme, “Harmony – we all have a role to play!” is a great theme for Forest Crescent Primary School, where, as an inclusive school, “Everyone Belongs”. Last Thursday, we commenced our celebrations with a family lunch attended by many families throughout the school. It was great to see mums, dads and grandparents enjoying being together while eating lunch and playing in the playground. We then moved to the more formal part of the afternoon, where we held our Harmony Day Assembly in the undercover area. Mrs Rodricks coordinated the assembly with a welcome from students across many different languages, followed by an amazing Harmony Day song led by Ms Britten and Ms Auld. Thank you to Mrs Rodricks, Ms Britten, Ms Auld, and Miss Sandhu for bringing the Harmony Day Assembly together and the school community for celebrating with us.
