Last Saturday evening, 21st September, we had the privilege to sit in the Lower Box at the Perth Concert Hall and listen to 500 students perform as part of the annual Massed Choir Festival, which has been running for 25 years! Our choir, together with students from nine other schools were amazing, and it was a very uplifting experience. The concert started with an Elvis Presley medley and finished with Eye of the Tiger. There was an operatic piece with “Funiculi, Funicula”, a David Bowie tribute (audience participation with their mobile phones was asked for) as well as acknowledging Apollo 11 launched, 16 July 1969, from Cape Kennedy on its way to becoming the first manned spacecraft to land on the moon. Aboard were Neil Armstrong, Michael Collins and Buzz Aldrin. A commissioned piece was a song about a long passed 1920’s Perth entertainer, “Percy Buttons” who has his own statue in the Perth City Mall. Congratulations to all of the students for their wonderful efforts, and especially to Ms Britten, Mrs Sellick, Mrs Craven and Mr Combes who also assisted during practice and on the night. Forest Crescent students were so well-behaved and sung well not only at concert night but also when rehearsing at Churchlands SHS.
