As you are aware, our school has had numerous mental health and wellbeing incursions since 2019 with A Stitch in Time.

This year, the program branched from upper primary to Year 1 to Year 4, with a session that Telethon supported. Students have had sessions from facilitators including Greg Hire and Brad Robbins (ex-Perth Wildcats), Blair Evans (Olympian), Marksman Lloyd (Music Artist), Ben Popham (Paralympian), and Michelle (Mental Health and Well-Being Counselor).

A Stitch in Time is also our Kids 4 Kids fundraising charity.

ASIT’s founder, Greg Hire, is about to launch an epic adventure to raise awareness and support for Youth Mental Health.

Aptly named ‘Riding for Hope,’ Greg will start his journey in Kununurra on the 28th of August. He will ride his bike back to Perth, arriving on the 27th of September. In all, he will pedal for 3674 km. He hopes that raising this awareness will also help raise more funds for A Stitch in Time so that more nationwide programs can be provided to schools.

As a partnership school, FCPS hope to support Greg in his ride. Of course, we can’t be on the road with him, but we have another idea. With the ‘Your Move’ student leaders, Miss Sandhu encourages students who ride to school to keep a log book. In this log book, students and their parents write how many kilometres the child has ridden daily. Students then take their log book to the Your Move student leaders, who will be set up in the undercover area each morning before school. They get their logbook stamped, and the number of kilometres written will be stamped into our log FCPS logbook. Whether a child rides 1km or 10km, all will be added to help us achieve a school goal of 3674km ridden. We hope to accomplish this goal by the school holidays, starting on 28th August. As Greg rides on the weekends, we will also count any kilometres ridden on the weekend. It’s a great way to encourage going for a ride.

During the day, the school’s logbook will be kept in the library so that students can see our school’s progress. Mrs Lambert has set up a display of Greg’s journey, including a map that will follow his progress.

For parents to follow Greg’s ride, head to A Stitch in Time’s Facebook and Instagram pages for updates and a link to donate to his ride if you would like to. Riding For Hope Website

Hope, connection, and helping everyone feel their best are what it’s all about. We hope your child can join us in this project. If interested, the special ‘Riding for Hope’ log books will be available in the front office from Tuesday, August 27th. Remember to ride safely and wear those helmets.
