Last week the Year 6 students travelled to Quellington, a farm between York and Northam. Students were involved in re-vegetating salt-affected farming land by planting 3750 salt-resistant plants across two planting sites. Mr and Mrs Gentle, the farm owners were amazed at the behaviour and tree planting expertise of our students in somewhat difficult and muddy conditions. Students used the pottiputki tree planters to help plant the seedlings.

Students were also involved in an environmental walk nearby Wallaby Hills Nature Reserve, where Zoologist Mandy Bamford provided information about the plants and animals the environment supports. Unfortunately, our Indigenous Elder Mr Fitzgerald ended up in the hospital and wasn’t able to join us. I know that Mr Fitzgerald is out of the hospital, and we wish him a speedy recovery.

We also thank Mr Bruce Ivers from Trees4Australia who coordinated the planting and supplied the 3750 plants, as well as the FCPS staff and parents who left school at 8.00am for the long bus trip up and returned to school by 4.30pm.

This activity is an authentic way to ensure that we make a difference, assisting in improving the environment for future generations.
