The Australian Mathematics Competition (AMC) was introduced in Australia in 1978 as the first Australia-wide mathematics competition for students. It has since spread internationally, with students in more than 30 countries attempting the same problems. In recent years, the competition has been available in two formats (online and paper), allowing even more students to participate worldwide.

Students are asked to solve 30 problems in 60 minutes (Years 3–6). The problems are designed to test mathematical thinking and questions.

This year, Forest Crescent Primary fielded a group of 66 participants from Year 3 to Year 6. They sat the competition after participating in workshop sessions where they explored various methods and concepts required to solve challenging questions from past papers. Ten students from Year 3, twenty-one students from Year 4, fifteen students from Year 5 and twenty students from Year 6 sat the competition with the following results;

  • One student was awarded a High Distinction- (Year 5) Brayden L.
  • Seven students were awarded a Distinction- (Year 3) Jiyu L, Tyson C; (Year 4) Adam L, Huud F; (Year 5) Alivia H; (Year 6) Ashton S, Zihang Y.
  • Twenty-one students awarded a Credit- (Year 3) Isabella J, Kennedy V, Nora N, Meena R; (Year 4) Muhammad A, Jack M, Lawson B, Kiara D; (Year 5) Jordan G, Thomas F, Kathie W, Jiah L, Ryan G; (Year 6) Haider N, Bryan P, Eli C, Quindan L, Jessica L, Hunter S, Aiden B, Spencer G.
