The wood working club was established as a once-a-week lunchtime club activity where senior primary students became involved in building bird boxes with the hope that the bird life around the school would utilise the bird boxes for nesting sites in the future. Through carefully researching the exact dimensions and build characteristics of bird boxes, particular to different types of birds, the wood working club constructed the boxes. Little details, such as allowing for air flow to reduce the humidity in the boxes-something that can attract swarming bees. The wood working club also inserted a wire mesh just below the inside entrance to the nesting box to allow hatchlings to use their beak and claws to climb up to entrance. Mr Jensen, who gave up his personal time, was the instructor for the wood working club. The completed bird boxes look brilliant.
