Science Fair

August 15, 2019 @ 3:15 pm - 4:15 pm

This year Forest Crescent Primary School will be hosting a science fair for students in years 4-6 to participate in on the 15th August 2019 after school. This is to consolidate primary school science learning and in conjunction with National Science Week. This event is not a competition, but rather an opportunity for students to showcase their scientific investigations.

Students that choose to participate will use inquiry skills to think up a question they have about something that can be tested. They will write using all steps of the scientific process (question, hypothesis, materials, procedure, data, and conclusion).  Below is a sample of how the students should present their information.

To enable students to complete their project by the 15th August, it is recommended that they begin their investigation during the school holidays and work at a comfortable pace.

The project must be experimental in nature as opposed to research-oriented. In other words, students must do a test, survey, or experiment to determine the answer to their question instead of just looking it up in a book. We encourage students to pick topics that they are genuinely interested in since they will be working on these projects for the next several weeks.  Topics must also be “original” – something students do not already know.
