In Term 2, Week 7, Ms Britten and the choir were kept busy with two performances at two venues. The first performance was at the Sing Festival at the Octagon Theatre at the University of Western Australia. At this recital they performed two songs and were accompanied on the piano by Mrs Wendy Jensen.
The first song performed was the song that the whole school also sang in celebration of NAIDOC week assembly, which was “My Island Home”.
The second song was “Sea of Flags” which was made famous by Jessica Mauboy, again accompanied by Mrs Jensen on the piano. The choir sang this song in two parts; soprano and alto.
This performance impressed the adjudicator, whose feedback was most favourable.
The choir was very well received and there were also other performances from five other schools.
Two days later the choir travelled to neighbouring school, Bletchley Park Primary, to jointly perform a number of songs from the upcoming Massed Choir Festival repertoire. They were watched by the Year 3 students at Bletchley Park Primary.
As the host school, Bletchley Park Choir opened the performance singing “Disney Showstoppers” and followed by the uplifting song, “Message of Hope”. Forest Crescent Choir, introduced by Zac, was then invited to the stage where they performed “Jungle Rhythm” and “We Know the Way” from the Moana movie soundtrack. Bletchley Park Choir then joined Forest Crescent Choir on stage where they then both performed “Sea of Flags” in two parts.
Both choirs finished the show with the classic hit from the Blues Brother movie soundtrack, “Shake Your Tailfeather”.
The finale was so well received, that the choirs were asked to do an encore. This time Forest Crescent Primary Principal, Mr Holmes and the Year 3 audience joined in “shakin’ their tail feathers”.
After the performances, both choirs congregated in the music room where the principals, from both schools, congratulated the students on their fine performance and acknowledged the hard work required in learning all the repertoire for the upcoming Massed Choir Festival, which for Forest Crescent is Saturday, 15th September 2018.
