The combined tree planting services from our Year 4 to Year 6 students across the year has seen just over 20, 000 trees planted in a variety of ecosystems in 2019.

The Year 4 students were again fortunate to participate in a tree-planting project ( funded by a State Natural Resource Management grant) at Woodman Point Regional Park on Thursday 23rd May.

On Tuesday 6th August, Rooms 15 and 16 travelled to Wandering as part of our sustainability program to plant trees. This activity provided students with the opportunity to help revegetate the salt-affected farm environment, see firsthand a working farm, as well as learn about indigenous culture in the Wandering area. Mr Bruce Ivers from Tree4Change coordinated the Tree Planting and Mr David Collard, a Nyoongar elder facilitated the Nyoongar Experience. Thank you to Ms Bee and Mr Nicholas who left school on the bus early and didn’t arrive back until 4.45pm. We planted around 2900 trees during our two planning sessions an amazing effort and one that the farmer and Mr Ivers were more than pleased with. Our final tree planting excursion for this year will occur on Monday 16 September when the Year 6 students will travel to Pingelly. [Year 5 Student]

On Monday 16th September, the Year 6’s adventured to a place called Pingelly via bus. The bus ride was 2hrs and 34mins with rest stops. When the Year 6s arrived they ventured through the large fields of tall crops to open space. Bruce
told the Year 6s about the kinds of plants they were planting and how to plant them. They formed two groups (A and B) and began planting in two separate areas. They worked extremely hard to plant 5,000+ trees in under 2hrs. The year 6s were extremely exhausted but were rewarded by being able to celebrate Cadence and Alex`s birthday with a chocolate frog. A great day was had by all. Thank you to all the parent helpers who participated in the tree planting! [Year 6 Student]
