The Book Week Parade was again a highlight of our school year. It is so important that we take every opportunity to celebrate the reading of books. This year’s theme was Read, Inspire and Grow, and it was wonderful to see so many students and staff celebrate their love of literacy! The variety of costumes was amazing, and I am in awe of the creativity of many of our parents (and staff). I would like to acknowledge Mrs Garic and her Literacy Committee for their wonderful coordination, Miss Auld as announcer, Ms Britten for the music, and Mrs Burke and Mrs Lambert for taking the many photos! Why do children need books?

  • Books create warm emotional bonds between adults and children when they read together.
  • Books help children develop basic language skills and profoundly expand their vocabularies.
  • Books are interactive; they demand that children think. Fiction and nonfiction books widen our consciousness.
  • Books entertain and offer a great escape.
  • Books inspire us to dream.
