Each year we celebrate Harmony Day at Forest Crescent. With approximately 200 students from a language background other than English (35% of our school population), it is an important week of celebration and recognition of our cultural diversity. This year’s theme, “Living in Harmony”, is an excellent theme for Forest Crescent where, as an inclusive school, “Everyone Belongs”.

Last Tuesday, we commenced our celebrations with a family lunch attended by many families throughout the school. It was great to see mums, dads and grandparents enjoying being together while eating lunch and playing in the playground. We then moved to the more formal part of the afternoon, where we held our Harmony Day Assembly in the undercover area. Mrs Rodricks coordinated the assembly with a welcome from students across many different languages, followed by a fantastic mega-mix of Harmony Day songs led by Ms Britten and Miss Auld.

The junior primary students sang “Somewhere Over the Rainbow”, followed by the middle primary students singing “You’ve Got a Friend In Me” and the senior primary students singing “Djapana” before concluding with the whole school song “Absolutely Everybody”.

After three years of COVID, it was awesome to have so many parents come and help celebrate, and the feeling during the whole school song was electric. Thank you to Mrs Rodricks, Ms Britten, and Ms Auld for bringing the Harmony Day Assembly altogether.
