Harmony Day is celebrated annually on March 21st in Australia. Harmony Day began in 1999, coinciding with the United Nations International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination. Each year, it is marked by people coming together and participating in local activities. During Week 7 we celebrate National Harmony Week, culminating in our Harmony Day Assembly
presented by Room 18 on Thursday 18 March. On Harmony Day students wore their National Costume or came dressed in orange, as a symbol of Harmony Day.

Room 18 students lead the school by singing and playing the song “Lean On Me”. The Room 18 band played the trumpet, flute, clarinet, guitar and keyboards.

After the song, Mrs Rodericks, the coordinator of Harmony Day 2021,  addressed the assembly and some of the students dressed in traditional cultural clothing stood up to show the rest of the assembly.

All the children got to create a sea of flags, waving paper flags made in art, which had a combination of orange handprints on one side reflecting Harmony Day, and the student’s country of origin on the other.

Thank you to Mrs Rodricks for coordinating our Harmony Day activities, with Ms Britten teaching the whole school song, and Mrs Portman coordinating our whole school art work.
