Congratulations on 96% of 273 students from Years 4 to Year 6 attending swimming.

In-term swimming lessons for Year 4-6 students is an integral part of the Department of Education’s Physical Education Program, with the Department of Education covering the costs of the swimming tuition. Parents only pay for pool entry and transport by bus. The following are the arrangements for in-term swimming lessons for our Years 4- Year 6 students.

Reminder

Points to Note for Parents

  • Before their departure, students can change into their bathers at school (bathers either brought in a plastic bag or worn underneath their school uniform) & wear their school uniform over their bathers to the pool & suitable footwear (in this case, thongs or slip-ons). Students must change back to their everyday footwear upon returning to school. Swimming goggles & caps are permitted; please ensure your child’s name is written on them. Students will take home their wet bathers and towel in their plastic bag.
  • Students ordering lunches from the canteen will be catered for, but students may need to consider their departure & return time.
  • Children with long hair must have it tied back before swimming. It is not appropriate to wear jewellery or bring valuables to swimming lessons.

What Each Child Should Bring For Swimming

  • Come to school with bathers under school uniform or in a named, heavy-duty plastic bag. Remember your towel.
  • Slip-on shoes or thongs to wear on the bus as shoes can be left at school (optional). Children cannot wear thongs all day at school and must have regular school shoes to change back into on return to school.
  • Please ensure ALL articles of clothing are marked with your child’s name to avoid confusion when children are changing. If your child has asthma, please make sure that they bring their Ventolin & spacer with them. These and all other medication will be held by the duty teacher for the duration of the class and then, depending on the medication, handed back to the children at the end of their swimming class or returned to the medical room.

Non-Swimmers

Children who do not attend swimming lessons will be supervised by teaching staff back at school with a work package provided by the child’s teacher. Normal class programmes may be modified for the duration of the swimming program.

Parents as Supervisors or Spectators

Parents who have nominated to attend the swim centre when their child is attending (due to health issues) need to report to the front desk of the swim centre and get their name checked off by the front office personnel against the list supplied by the school. No parents have indicated to the school that they need to assist in supervising their child. Please let Mr Combes know if you need to assist in supervising your child on medical grounds.

Parents who would like to attend as a spectator, be advised spectators will be charged $2.00 for each visit to the pool.
